Week 73 Baptism and Pictures

Okay so this week went by just so fast!! I feel like every week is faster and faster. This whole transfer is about to end and i cant believe it! This week we had some great things happen! And some super spiritual lessons as well!! Also there was some babysitting like always because one elder has a bad mouth and started saying some not so nice things to an elder. And that one elders patience wasn't the highest that day so it was an emergency.... like last week. and the week before.

So lets talk about the good stuff this week!!

We had 2 baptisms on Saturday!!! And they are all actually pretty golden investigators. They are the first time that the original baptismal dates didn't actually fall!! One is named Sindy and the other sandy.. they aren't sisters for those of you at home thinking "oh how clever their mom" just coincidence.

Sindy is the one that said that she wants to be a missionary when she turns 19. But she is a delicate person. We went to visit her on Wednesday and she said that she didn't know how she felt to be baptized because no one in all of her family supports her. they gave her permission and everything but they aren't happy about what she did. I guess her cousin who is her best friend is also the pastor of her old church and he announced in church that she is going to get baptized and now all of her friends just dropped her. And she just cried asking why it had to be so hard to do the right thing and that she doesn't know if its worth it. It was one of those times where you just put the scriptures to the side and just speak from the heart and completely let the Spirit teach. It was so awesome just thinking about all of the life experiences in my life, the lives of my mom and dad and everyone I have ever known and getting to show her those. Elder Avila had a great story about how he got baptized and 3 years later his whole family did as well. but in those 3 years he got yelled at and abused for it. Everyone was just teary eyed and sindy just cried and cried and the best was when we talked about Christ and his sacrifice. I mean it was just one of those lessons that was perfect. We finished and she just said with a big smile that she wants to get baptized. And the day of her baptism. no one came to support her and she cried again but she was just so happy. Sindy is the one next to Elder Avila in the pictures.

Sandy also didn't have anyone there except for her best friend. But sandy is more sassy like Alison and doesn't care what people think so she was just like "what ever, I'm doing this for Jesus and not my mom" it made me laugh a bit how she said it hahaha

My week was just so great for the baptisms but I just feel like we could have done more this week. I'm all for having fun and working butIi feel like this week we just didn't get to work because we had to do like 3 baptismal interviews and divisions 2 times this week. It's just hard being a Zone Leader honestly. I find that we just don't have as much time to work as we did before. And we spend so much money traveling!!!!! We are always so poor. But I talked to my comp and told him that next week no matter what happens we gotta focus more on our area and find more time to work because we really just don't have time to do much there. But there are some great perks to it as well. We get to see how the zone works and teach according to their needs and we can actually see the progress in it because Elder Avila and I don't teach about numbers and stuff but we teach how to actually do the stuff more efficiently!! And our zone is actually having a lot of success!! Just on Saturday alone our zone had 6 baptisms!!! So like in the whole month our zone had like 16!! And there are 16 missionaries so that means that we had 1 baptism for every missionary which is the goal of the mission!! So that part is fun!

I love you all!

Week 72 Life of a Zone Leader

This week was good but in a different way.  Like in a way that nothing bad happened so it was good. But like it kind of wasn't great so i guess it qualifies as good. So it was good!

We basically are not zone leaders, nor the young women's presidents.... but the Nursery moms who take care of the kids while everyone else gets to go and do what they want to do in church. Shout out to you guys. I have a lot more respect for what you do.

We basically just went and baby sat all week. On Tuesday, we had to go house to house asking if there are problems with the house, asking if we can do anything for them and stuff like that. I don't know what is happening down here but everyone seems to want permitrine. Its like extreme bug spray. I mean I got stung by a scorpion and lived, I think you all can too. Stop asking me for that.

Then Wednesday, we had zone interviews so we had to go and prepare the whole building for Pres. Bowler. and of course. there were problems so when Pres. Bowler got there, he let us know he was disappointed in the fact that the church wasn't ready for it all..... danger sisters in Danli A for not getting the key to us on time..... I'm not angry.

Then on Thursday, the Missionaries said that they needed help in their area, so we went and gave a big hand.

Friday was the first full day in our area.... and we literally killed it. We did like 5 lessons with a member present. low key my comp and I are killing it out here in our area when we actually get the chance to work hahah

Saturday- the other companionship of elders started to fight. I guess there were bad words beings said so we did emergency divisions to let them breath and we took advantage and made them come to our area. they weren't happy but we just said, come and they came!

Sunday- I don't know why, but people in Honduras just don't like preparing classes.... so the missionaries do it hahaha but after 6 months in Cantarranas where the members only go to warm the seats, I am prepared for anything!! It was a good class hahaha

So basically a lot of running around and helping others. But it was a great week!!! I love the helping others part. I am getting into the habit of ironing my companions shirt every morning while he is showering. it just gives you that little warm feeling in your chest.

nother cool thing that happened this week was that our investigator Sindy said that she wants to get baptized this week AND that she wants to become a missionary like us when she turns 19! it made me just smile and that warm feeling in the chest came and it just reminds you that this gospel really can change lives. i love it!! This Saturday we could have had like 6 baptisms but because 3 didn't go to church we will probably only have about 3 baptisms. but that is still great!! I'm excited!

And I know that you all get excited to hear about the fun mission stories and the miracles but i just want you all to know that I have somehow turned into a soccer beast. i made 3 people fall over playing soccer today. so after 16 months in Honduras, I officially know how to play soccer haha

I love you all!!!

Week 71 lots of investigators

This week was really good!

So we were going to have a baptism on Saturday but the grandma decided that the girl wasn't ready. That was frustrating because it was a 10 year old and the whole family are members of the church but somehow the kid isn't ready. So that was frustrating. But the good thing is that we have so many more people out here who are ready and willing to get baptized its crazy!! right now we have like 10 people with a baptismal date! and of those 10, I think that 5 are like for sure getting baptized so even though we lost 1, we will have a lot more! I'm looking forward to that part.

I mean basically my week was pretty standard with a lot of work, and tired every day. But we do have one fun story!

So our neighbors basically hate us. They are like full on anti Mormons and its hilarious. They will sometimes just go outside and start yelling at our house. We live upstairs and a like dangerous drug dealer is our land lord so I'm not worried. speaking of drug dealer, we went to his house and we found a loaded gun on his couch. Dads guns are cooler. anyways, back to the crazies, so I guess Thursday they were like "I have a plan to get rid of the Mormons". They went to the church and complained to the bishop about us! BUT what they said just made the bishop laugh. because they told him that we are playing our rap music too loud at night and that we stay up watching our TV waaayyy to late at night hahaha I was just like, if you're gunna lie, you might as well do it well.

So I mean that was basically it. I hope that this week we have some baptisms and we will have interviews with Pres. Bowler. I should have some more stories for you all!

I love you all,
Elder Garry

Week 70

Alright well my week was crazy but at the same time crazy awesome!

So we were really never in our area this week. I guess as a Zone Leader we really dont do anything but babysit people. Like on Wednesday we had to go and do divisions because a companionship is just fighting and fighting. And one of the companions is the companion of Elder Santacrus from the MTC, and he would always tell me how crazy he was. So i actually called him to see if he could give me any tips, and like always, my kid is clutch. so we went and did our divisions and i think that they went well! and i was able to help this trouble maker. And since then we haven't heard anything bad from that companionship. and all at the same time, i got to go back to my old area and see some of my converts and everything! so fun!

Another cool thing that i got to do is I got to give our first class as a Zone Leader. and that would be all fun and everything but then Pres. Bowler decided to come and give us a surprise visit and that made it so stressful!! turns out he went to interview that companionship that is always fighting. But our class turned out really great! we talked about doing inspired questions, listening, discerning the Spirit, and then Teaching the doctrine according to what the investigator needs. the class was the bomb!! the zone was participating and then Pres. Bowler said that it was great!! so that made me feel really good!

And we also had a baptism this week!! it was a lady that they found like 3 days before i got to the area. she has been an investigator for only 2 weeks and got baptized!! She was praying for someone to come and teach her the gospel and then they showed up like the same day. so she just took it as the sign from God and just got baptized as soon as possible! it was great!

and then!!
at church we had a ton of investigators there! and when I say a ton, i mean 18!!! that is like a record or something!! my most before that was 9! I doubled it! and all of them are so positive and this week we are just going to go and teach them all and then baptize them all!! i just love this area so much!!

Overall I am just so happy out here in the mission. I love my area, my companion, and my zone. I hope everything goes well out there at home as well!

love Elder Garry
